Completing this form is a prerequisite to adopting a Basenji through Basenji Rescue and Transport, Inc. To complete the form you must have a valid e-mail address. (Since this is primarily a Web-based organization, we depend almost entirely on communicating with you via e-mail. If you do not have an e-mail address you can get one through a service that provides them free of charge, like Excite or Lycos.) The information you provide helps our coordinators match you and your family with just the right dog.

Answer the form as completely as you can and remember that your name and e-mail address are required. Your responses will only be used in rescue-related activities but may be posted to a private Web site and may be read by a network of BRAT rescue workers and coordinators. Your information may also be transmitted via e-mail to the same.

If you are serious about adopting a rescue and you express interest in a particular dog you can expect interviews, reference checks and possibly a home-visit from a BRAT coordinator before the adoption is finalized. BRAT may also do background checks on applicants based on public records, including criminal conviction records.

If you don't know much about Basenjis, we encourage you to read some of our Reality Stories and the 2004 Dog World article. These stories may enlighten you to the characteristics of the breed. Finally, please note that either BRAT or any local club placing the dog will charge an adoption fee to cover direct and indirect expenses incurred in their rescue program. You can pay BRAT either with a check, through PayPal or with your credit card.
