Pepe may well be the smartest dog around. He is about 4 years old, full
of curiosity and he wants to please. In addition, he is very handsome, fit
and muscular. We think he is a Basenji Chihuahua mix and when he runs; his
natural athleticism really comes through.

He is good with dogs, loves to go running and is an excellent companion.
Pepe had lived with a companion dog (male) and now resides at a no kill
kennel with lots of dogs. He likes walking, running and playing with other
dogs. He is very dog socialized. He does have the ability to become
protective while on leash, but responds very quickly to simple voice or
leash corrections. One of the things we have noticed about Pepe is he is
incredibly self contained. His owner surrendered him, saying she didn't have
enough time for he and his companion. Instead of making
that a negative,
that lack of attention taught Pepe to be a patient and calm little guy. He
is happy to play with his toys or roll around on his bed.

But wait till you see him cut loose, he is the epitome of happy on 4
legs! When he does get attention and affection, he is a total love. Scratch
him around the ears or on his chest and belly, he practically melts onto
your lap.
Pepe has shown interest in chasing cats and squirrels, because that is
what Basenjis do. But he is quick to redirect his attention with a voice or
leash correction. However, he is very curious about them. For that reason,
it might be easier if he goes to a home without cats. Pepe would love to
find a person/family who can appreciate a smart dog like him. He is truly
the sweetest pup, ever, and much like a typical Basenji, he can be
protective at times. But when he is with people who love him, he is a
completely balanced, friendly, dog frie
ndly, pack member. If you are
