Jude

Jude is a handsome 7 and a half month old Basenji mix. He is playful, energetic, yet calm and sweet.

He is crated trained, completely housebroken, and is not a chewer. He does, however, tend to shred his toys, so buying toys on a regular basis will be required! His house, at medium-sized crate is available to come with him. He is UTD on all vaccinations, neutered, and very healthy. He knows basic commands: sit, shake, lay down, hold/wait, and working on roll over. He has been through a six week puppy training course and did very well. He is very food motivated.

He enjoys playing with other dogs, loves everyone really. He hasn't spent a lot of time around children, but I think he would do well with older children perhaps. I think he would do well in a household with another dog or with a couple or individual. He loves the dog park and going for long walks (he still needs a bit more work on with leash training, but he is continually improving). He seems very adaptable to change and new environments, although, it may take him a little time to adjust. Additionally, I think he would appreciate a home with a fenced in yard as he loves being outside.

He is very sweet and loving and inquisitive. When I'm cooking or cleaning, he enjoys sitting and watching me very intently. He can be independent as many Basenjis can be, but he is very smart and listens relatively well - treats help! He does bark, but mostly when he wants to play. When he wakes from a nap or sleeping, I can sometime catch him yodeling. He truly is a great companion. Jude seems to be able to read my mood pretty well and understands when it's time for play and time for quiet and displays a great deal of emotional intelligence. He does tend to groom himself like a cat and can be somewhat aloof/independent at times, but he is very charming, however.

I will be starting graduate school soon and I'm afraid I will not be able to give him the attention he deserves. I love Jude very much, but I think it would be selfish of me to keep him.
