Wonton
and Mushu were brought to the US from the streets of Taiwan when they were
puppies. They have been with me since they were 6 and 4 months old
respectively.
Wonton ( 35lbs/red) is outgoing, friendly and loves to be around his
person. If it was up to him he would spend most of his day sitting on your
lap getting his tummy rubbed. He is extremely intelligent and extremely fast
and loves to run. He loves to play chase with other dogs but can get
overwhelmed if there are too many dogs around. He has lived with my cats for
the past three years and does great with the one that doesn't run from him.
The cats that runs? Well, how can he not chase her? Wonton went to puppy
school when I first got him and was a very fast learner. Sadly, I have not
kept up on his training so a refresher course would be great for him.
Mushu (30lbs/black) is far more anxious than Wonton. She spent the first
several months that she was with me hiding under the couch but has slowly
come out of her shell. She is very protective of her owner and a great watch
dog. She plays well with Wonton but gets overwhelmed by large groups of dogs
or strangers. While Wonton plays at the park, Mushu prefers to walk with me
while other dogs are around. She will bark at the cat until the cat looks at
her at which point she hides. Mushu is completely food motivated and will do
almost anything for a treat.
If you know anything about Basenjis then you know that they need a fenced
yard and lots of exercise; they are a sight hound so they will chase any
cat, squirrel or leaf that comes by so leashes are essential. They are
intelligent and escape artists, so if there is a way out of your yard they
will find it. Mushu is more of the escape artist but Wonton will follow.
Both dogs are house trained and crate trained although Wonton really
doesn't think he needs his crate. While I am at work they spend the day in
my den, with their crates available. They also sleep in this room at night
although, again, Wonton really thinks he should get to sleep on the couch.
When I leave for the day I leave stuffed Kongs and chew toys and that seems
to keep them busy. They love the bones from the butcher and those keep them
busy for days. All of their shots are current as of December 08 and both are
fixed. I truly hate to part with them but really feel like I just am not
able to be home enough to provide them a good home. Ideally, I would like to
find them a home together but know this may not be possible and would pos
sibly
consider re homing Wonton alone. If you are interested in knowing more about
