TidBit

Howdy, this here's TidBit. I'm just a tidbit of a dog, and a tidbit of Basenji and a tidbit of somethin' else - maybe a Chihuahua? - but I'm a giant Cutey Pie looking for a home for Christmas. Will it be yours?

I may be young, but I've experienced a lot in this short life of mine, or at least it looks that way. My foster home sprung me from the dog shelter when I was maybe 9 weeks old. I was injured, but no one knew what it was until they took me to a place for x-rays. I had 2 broken front legs!

You can read a little bit of my story on a blog (http://drivingmissdasypus.blogspot.com/2011/11/tidbits-story-tidbit-with-his-first.html). There's also a great photo album of me on my foster's facebook page: (https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.2338706201571.122606.1667378423&type=1&l=e6263f95b6)

This week, the doctor proclaimed me healed and said I could resume increased activity up to normal over the next few weeks. Yipppeee! I've been cooped up in a crate and ex-pen for so long, now I can start to run and play like a real puppy! I am so excited to play with all the other dogs at my foster home.

I have some funny quirks, they are kinda cute, but kinda need to be watched. I tend to growl or bark when I am stressed. Things that stress me include big, scary strange people or dogs, or sometimes it's something new (like a giant wrapped present that wasn't in the room 5 seconds ago). I bark first then I investigate. If I am really stressed, I start to bite whatever is closest to me. My bites aren't too bad, but I still have some sharp puppy teeth, so care is needed. I don't mean to bite; it's just a reflex when I'm really scared.

Things that cause me to do this are usually associated with lots of really loud noises and lots of activity, like big dogs barking and running all over the place below me. At the vet, where there were a lot of dogs in kennels right next to me, I was afraid of people that came to get me from my kennel. Now that my legs are healed, some of this behavior is going away and with a little bit of training, lots of treats and positive exposure to these things, I think I can learn to handle them ok without too much trouble.

Otherwise, I love people and I love to be held and carried around. I probably won't be a very big dog, 12-15 lbs at most (unless I eat too many puppy treats). I love to be cuddled and love to sleep in people's laps. Because I spent a lot of time in confinement for my legs to heal, I actually really love my crate and go there all the time to chew on bones, nap and sleep at night.

I am 100% potty trained using a dog door, but my new family will have to expect that to retrain me a little bit (just a tid-bit!). I love to play and my all-time favorite game is TUG! TUG! TUG! Anything will do - your pant leg, a towel, a toy, a paper bag- I love squeaky toys as big as I am and I love to chew, chew, chew. Right after my splints came off, I started to lose all my baby teeth, so I really need lots of chewies to help me. I am very smart and a quick learner and super easy to train!

I am looking for my forever home; will it be yours??? If, so, please contact Wendy Hodges: WendyLHodges@alumni.utexas.net
