Murray is an 8 month old Basenji/American Eskimo mix who thinks he is
truly a full blooded basenji... and is seeking a forever home with someone
who keeps that thought in mind.
He likes kids, and would love to have a home with other doggy playmates.
He has done well with every dog we've introduced him to, from puppy to Great
Dane. No cats, though, they are just too much fun to chase.... I don't know
if he'd harm one, but he certainly wants to meet one up close and personal!
Sometimes the white tip on his tail will surprise him and he just has to
chase that round & round till he catches it.
He is such a character and he has no concept that he was born with a
deformity. His left front leg has a bone defect that makes it shorter than
his right leg and his paw consists of 1 long toe with a pad and another very
short one. But it doesn't slow him down a bit! He loves to run as fast as he
can so a leash is a must when he's outside a fenced
yard.
Murray didn't receive the upbringing he should have, but since he arrived
in rescue we are making up for that. We are crate training him, and suggest
that he be crated with appropriate chew toys -- and not a closet full of
shoes -- when left alone. Murray is housebroken and has had no accidents.
We've also been helping him learn his basic commands, he's so smart he's
already learned to sit & stay for treats. Continued training, socialization
and inclusion with his "pack" will keep him from becoming bored, and will
solve/prevent most issues since he is still basically a puppy.
Murray has a high energy level, and even with his physical limitations,
we think he would do well with lure coursing or some other sport, like
agility or even flyball. Toys are new to him but he is starting to catch
onto the game of fetch. But he also enjoys his downtime. He absolutely loves
to lie on your lap while you're watching TV, but will gladly lie at your
feet when asked. He also wants to follow you everywhere and then will
politely lay there while you do what you need to do.
Even though Murray isn't "perfect", he thinks so and we think he's a
perfect companion for Basenji lovers. We think a home where people are
around most of the time will probably help him greatly and make him a
wonderful family member. If you think you can provide Murray with the home
we would like him to have, please contact Valhalla Rescue at valhallarescue@msn.com
