Radar
Hi! My name is Radar. I am one of the best basenjis; so
easy-going and good natured, healthy and uncomplicated. I like everyone I
meet, human or dog. I love to play with every dog I meet - even the big
ones. I look a little funny when I'm playing with a 150 pound giant, but I
have a great time doing it. I can be handled all over and enjoy any
attention I'm given. I love to play, run and wrestle like a puppy, but I'm
so much better because I'm mature. I know the house rules and am quite good
about respecting most things that aren't mine if I'm given the attention and
entertainment I crave.
I am very agile - I can easily jump onto a table if
something needs inspecting. I do have a healthy appetite, so leaving food on
the table unattended might be too much temptation. I am also a great
climber, so you must never trust me in a wire or chain-link fenced yard. I
am pretty clever and very curious - I just might be resourceful enough to
find my way out of any fenced yard. I have been great at the dog park,
though, so please take me there regularly. I'll stay in that fenced area
with you and my canine pals.
I do need a fair amount of exercise daily - I like to stay
fit. I'd love to take a run with you in the morning, or evening, or
anytime. A nice canine pal would be great, but is not required if you can
give me lots of exercise and attention. My current routine involves an hour
or so of hard play in the morning, a couple of hours in the late afternoon
or early evening and a good brisk walk. I race in and out of the house into
a fenced yard under close supervision - I can scale the fence in less than 5
seconds. I've been quite good with this level of activity. Be sure that you
are ready to give me lots of attention and exercise if you want me to join
your family. I can be a really great guy.
If you think you could provide Radar with love, activity, and evening
cuddle-time, please read the data sheet below carefully, complete
the BRAT
adoption form (if you have not previously done so)
and contact BRAT coordinator,
Pam Hamilton. The coordinator's link will take you to a form that will
ask you your name, e-mail address, the city and state you live in, why
Radar is perfect for your family, a
typical day in your household, and, how you plan to
transport him. |

list anything else: Radar has expressed interest in the large outside
cat who will
stand up to basenjis. Radar backed off when the cat threatened him. Any
cat in Radar's
new home should be basenji-savvy. Radar may tear cloth material if he is
trying to get someone to play.
He has been left at home with his foster siblings without being
destructive. Chews on appropriate chews if provided.
He likes to check out what is on tables and can easily jump onto a table
of the average dining table height.
Radar has a history of climbing fences and escaping. He can only be out
in a chain-link
or wire fenced yard if he is extremely closely supervised. He can get
out in less than five seconds, but he will get down if he is called back
with a happy distraction. He has been fine at the dog park - not
attempting to escape.
We have always called him to wake him if we want him to get up. He
sleeps quite deeply and may need to be called several times to wake him.
Radar can be encouraged to sing and is quite vocal with several
different sounds.
