Copper

Copper is a 5-year-old, red and white male basenji who is very friendly, walks well on a leash, and it quite the talker. He currently knows "sit" and is working on being invited onto the bed and furniture. He is house trained and his foster mom says they are working on using the door bells with his potty training. She does report that he vocalized his need to go outdoors! Copper is not destructive indoors or outdoors and doesn't care for the crate either. He is a great travel companion and loves to ride in the car.

He was diagnosed as heartworm positive when he arrived into BRAT's care, but he has been treated and is better. His foster mom reports that he does cough periodically if he over exerts himself, but his doctor has given him the "all clear". He is on heartworm preventative and is otherwise healthy.

Copper is looking for a forever home with no children under age 12, a docile female basenji or other dog to play with, a home where he can continue his house manners training, and no cats. He will need a fenced yard, regular walks and someone to snuggle with him daily.

If you think you could provide Copper with love, activity, and evening cuddle-time, please read the data sheet below carefully, complete the BRAT adoption form (if you have not previously done so) and contact BRAT coordinator, Suzanne Sarlls-Hartwell. The coordinator's link will take you to a form that will ask you your name, e-mail address, the city and state you live in, why this dog is perfect for your family, a typical day in your household, and, if applicable, how you plan to transport Copper.

There is an adoption fee of $250.00 for Copper. This fee is used for all costs associated with the care and feeding of Copper and future basenjis in rescue. BRAT adopters receive a dog that has been spayed or neutered ($100.00-$250.00, depending on location), fully vaccinated and tested for heartworm and Fanconi (negative unless otherwise noted), and temperament evaluated. In addition, BRAT provides free lifetime post-adoption counseling to help deal with behavioral issues. Finally, we provide a free lifetime identification tag connected to our "lost dog" toll free number.
