Buddy and Ashley
My name is Buddy. I am a 7 yr. old, tri-colored male
that is looking for a new home for my sister and myself. My sister,
Ashley is red & white. We have been together all of our lives. We went
to live with our human Dad when we were 8 weeks old. If you think the
T.V. reality shows are exciting they can't compare with our real life
experience. We were at our home in New Orleans and survived Hurricane
Katrina in our back yard. Now, we have to find a new home because our
Dad is seriously ill. We have met some really special people from BRAT
that helped arrange our trip from New Orleans to our new foster home.
The day after Thanksgiving, Ashley and I were flown in a private
airplane to Shreveport, LA. We miss our Dad, but our Foster Mom is
taking really good care of us. Our foster brother has been helping us
get more exercise and we play a lot. He REALLY likes Ashley and flirts
with her all the time. Ashley scorns him so I get to chase him around
the yard.
Notes from our Foster Mom.. Buddy is a cuddle bunny; he
crawls into the chair while I'm reading and fits himself around me. For the
past couple of nights he has slept with my Basenji and me. He curls up and
doesn't budge all night. He is playful, loves to race around the yard or
house with his foster brother. He will chase anything that is fuzzy !
Therefore, cats or small fluffy toy dogs are not a good idea.
Ashley's
name suits her perfectly - she is a Southern Bell! Ashley is affectionate --
sits at my feet and looks up longingly. But she can be snarky when pulled
away from something she wants to eat. When I'm having leash troubles she
sits quietly and waits while the boys pull on their leash. She is more
serious than Buddy, is content to sit by me while the boys wrestle. She did
spend her nights in her crate, but just recently has decided to sleep in bed
with everyone else. Ashley is having some remedial training involving
housebreaking.
They seem to like both men and women. I have not had them
around many children, but they allowed a couple of little boys to pat them
on a walk last week. They are pretty good on the leash, though Buddy tries
to walk up every driveway. Both get along with my basenji just fine. I
wouldn't put them with cats though. They have a high prey drive.
Because
Buddy and Ashley are overweight, both are on thyroid meds for a six-week
trial. They take pills in peanut butter or in canned dog food very well.
Ashley and Buddy would like to find a home where they
could stay together. If you have always wanted a "pair" of Basenji's but
don't want to take a chance they won't bond - Ashley and Buddy may be your
answer.
If you think you could provide Buddy and Ashley with love, activity, and evening
cuddle-time, please read the data sheet below carefully, complete
the BRAT
adoption form (if you have not previously done so)
and contact BRAT coordinator,
Tonya Ahrens. The coordinator's link will take you to a form that will
ask you your name, e-mail address, the city and state you live in, why this
pair is perfect for your family, a
typical day in your household, and, if applicable, how you plan to
transport these two dogs. |
