Shane
Shane
is a wonderfully sweet little tri male who lives with two older children,
mom, dad and 5 dogs (of varying sizes and temperaments). He is a smaller
male who loves to play and hang out in the sunshine with his canine
foster-siblings.
Shane thoroughly enjoys his walks and when he walks, his
head is held high and is said to be an angel on the leash. He also likes to
jog next to a bicycle. He is curious of new people, but he does not want
strangers to pet him and is aloof around people he doesn't know because he
is timid with new people and situations. He does take some time to warm up
to new people and get to know you but one day you'll be sitting on the sofa
and feel the gentle nudge of a sweet fur-baby next to you. Shane has no
problem with people around him when he is eating his food or chewing on his
treats, but he doesn't want other dogs near him.
Shane's
ideal home would be with a laid back female canine companion that is
socialized and friendly for him to play with and learn from. He would prefer
someone who was home more often than not (i.e. retired family, or someone
who works from home) or someone who could bring him to work with them. When
left alone he should be confined to a Basenji safe area as he has some
separation anxiety. Shane cannot be crated and needs to be near another dog
if/when left home. He simply needs direction, showing him what is expected
of him and letting him know when his behavior is appropriate. Shane needs
someone who is patient and will have the time to take him on lots of walks
and to let strangers give him treats and pets.
If you think you could provide Shane with love, activity, and evening
cuddle-time, please read the data sheet below carefully, complete
the BRAT
adoption form (if you have not previously done so)
and contact BRAT coordinator,
Suzanne Sarlls-Hartwell.
The coordinator's link will take you to a form that will ask you your name,
e-mail address, the city and state you live in, why this dog is perfect for
your family, a typical day in your household, and, if applicable, how you
plan to transport Shane. There is an
adoption fee of $250.00 for Shane. This fee is used for all costs
associated with the care and feeding of Shane and future basenjis in
rescue. BRAT adopters receive a dog that has been spayed or neutered
($100.00-$250.00, depending on location), fully vaccinated and tested for
heartworm and Fanconi (negative unless otherwise noted), and temperament
evaluated. In addition, BRAT provides free lifetime post-adoption counseling
to help deal with behavioral issues. Finally, we provide a free lifetime
identification tag connected to our "lost dog" toll free number. |
