Buddy
Happy
and healthy, six-year-old Buddy has really blossomed in the care of his
foster family. A bit stressed at first, Buddy just needed time to get
comfortable and relax so that his personality could shine through. He is all
basenji, which is a good thing, of course. Buddy's fosters have learned that
he can be quite a vocal boy and will let them know if he wants
something—usually what he wants is to go outside to the backyard so he can
chase squirrels. Buddy loves to play and even enjoys playing with his foster
dad. He plays a little rough, but he is learning the "easy" command.
Buddy is such a good-natured boy that he just takes it in
stride when the resident dogs get jealous and try to intimidate him. He
never reacts to their dominant behavior or gets snarky with either of his
foster siblings. Buddy is even well-mannered at the vet. He's also quite a
snuggler and likes to sit with his head in his foster dad's lap most of the
time—at least when his Min-Pin foster sibling doesn't push him out of the
way to take his spot. Buddy currently alternates between sleeping in the bed
with his fosters and on the couch, depending on which he prefers at the
time.
Buddy is very well-behaved while his fosters are eating,
but he is a tall boy and good at counter-surfing. He complained a couple of
times at first when his foster parents told him to get "down" from the
counters, but he got the point. His fosters did have to start using
child-proof locks because Buddy can be quite determined to get at the
garbage and he is quite good at opening cupboards. All-in-all Buddy has been
a great dog. He is house-trained and has not been destructive.
Buddy's
foster family really love this boy and they say he's going to make a great
dog for someone. They suggest that he will do best in a home with an active
companion near his own age to play with, especially if his people can't be
around most of the time.
If you think you could provide Buddy with love, activity, and evening
cuddle-time, please read the data sheet below carefully, complete
the BRAT
adoption form (if you have not previously done so)
and contact BRAT coordinator,
William Key.
The coordinator's link will take you to a form that will ask you your name,
e-mail address, the city and state you live in, why this dog is perfect for
your family, a typical day in your household, and, if applicable, how you
plan to transport Buddy. There is an
adoption fee of $225.00 for Buddy. This fee is used for all costs
associated with the care and feeding of Buddy and future basenjis in
rescue. BRAT adopters receive a dog that has been spayed or neutered
($100.00-$250.00, depending on location), fully vaccinated and tested for
heartworm and Fanconi (negative unless otherwise noted), and temperament
evaluated. In addition, BRAT provides free lifetime post-adoption counseling
to help deal with behavioral issues. Finally, we provide a free lifetime
identification tag connected to our "lost dog" toll free number. |
