Nyla and Lola
Hi
everyone! We are two very beautiful 4 ½ year old sisters. My name is Nyla.
We really wish we could tell you more about our history, but all we can
really say is that a human rescued us from a shelter where we were stuck in
a cage for a month! It was just awful! Although we are very independent
girls, we would like to go to the same forever home if possible.

I’d like to tell you what I do know about us. That's my
photo on the right, and Lola's is below.
I try very hard to get along with everyone, but my sister Lola, can be
just a little “snarky” (I think that’s the term my foster Dad uses) with the
other female dogs. Even though she has REALLY improved with this, I’d still
like us to go to a home where it is just “us” girls. We now get along with
everyone in our foster home. You must know that we have our moments too, but
not to worry, we are just being typical basenji sisters and really don’t
mean any harm to each other. If we have to be separated, I can go to a home
with other dogs both male and female, but Lola would be more comfortable
with other males and being the only female dog in the house.
Ok, Lola here, now about my sister Nyla, she’s really nice
and all but, she chases her tail “uh, how silly is that?” We both love to
cuddle; we can be handled all over; we will sleep in your bed (preferably)
or wherever you allow us. We are both avid squirrel hunters and can watch
and chase them for hours if you let us! We are very active and we get rid of
our energy by chasing the cat (if he lets us) and each other in the house
and the backyard. We are crate trained and like to go for car rides. We have
made great success with house training and telling our foster family that we
have to go out. We had a hard time at first; after all we were stuck in a
crate for a month and were not able to tell anyone that we needed to go
potty.
Now,
let’s talk about the resident cat. This cat doesn’t run from us that much,
although when he does we love to chase him. Frankly, we like the cat,
especially when he stalks us, attacks and then goes and hides where we can
get to him. I heard my foster Dad say he’s “a basenji savvy cat” so we could
go to a home with one of them. Ok, we have to admit this, we have also been
seen allowing him to rub up against us and sleeping next to us. Now if he
wasn’t basenji savvy, we might not like him as much.
Even though we are petite ladies, we do like our food and
will grumble if you move us while eating, but it’s only a grumble. We love
the sports of counter surfing and begging, but we are learning “NO” and
“DOWN.”
We will bolt if your house is not bolt proof and we also
need to become more lady-like when walking on a leash. It’s just so hard
because there are so many things that need investigating right away.
An ideal home for us would be where someone is around a
majority of the day where we are not left alone for more than 4 hours (or we
have to go into our crates which is ok, but not our preference). Also, older
kids would be ok; we do not mind the ones that are in and out of our foster
home. If you think you could provide Nyla and Lola with love, activity, and evening
cuddle-time, please read the data sheet below carefully, complete
the BRAT
adoption form (if you have not previously done so)
and contact BRAT coordinator,
Michelle & Bruce Martenis. The coordinator's link will take you to a form that will
ask you your name, e-mail address, the city and state you live in, why this dog
(or both) is perfect for your family, a
typical day in your household, and, if applicable, how you plan to
transport the dog(s). |
