Toby and Chloe

Toby and Chloe are two of the nicest dogs I have ever met! They are a younger father-daughter pair of Basenjis.

Toby is a handsome tri-colored three-year-old boy. He has a laid back, easy going disposition—he’s ready to play but also ready to snuggle up on the couch! He is very curious and thorough in his investigations of a new place, which leads to a typical Basenji “selective hearing”. In the kitchen he likes to counter surf, and is learning this is not acceptable behavior. He is a very quiet boy.

Chloe is a spunky two-year-old girl. Her coloring is striking: a sable fula-tri with icy blue eyes. Her tail never stops wagging! Chloe has a great “baroo!” and lets you know she’s happy to see you. She is very playful, willing to wrestle with other dogs and chase toys for people. She’s willing to play by herself too, and loves to pull stuffing out of any toy available. She will chose inappropriate chew things for herself (plastic water bottles, children’s toys, etc.) if left to her own devices.

The two of them are very bonded. They sleep together in a crate at night (although they’d probably prefer to sleep in a human’s bed!). They are also crated together while people are out of the house. They are excellent in this regard. Both are housebroken, and neither have climbed the chain link fencing. Chloe can easily jump over baby gates, however. They ride nicely in a car in one or two crates. Neither of them have been food aggressive, and are very gentle when taking treats from people.

Both Chloe and Toby are very social and like it best when other people and dogs are around. They were easily introduced to our resident pack. They loved having other dogs to play with! We have been given lots of free entertainment watching the group of them play. Our basenji-savvy cat was a source of great curiosity to them; they were never aggressive but he did get annoyed with their overwhelming insistence that he play with them. They do chase him if he runs. I don’t know if they were exposed to children before, but with our four-year-old daughter they are wonderfully gentle. (Chloe likes the fact that a child’s face is so close to hers that she can lick it relentlessly!)

This is an incredible pair of Basenjis. They would be a wonderful addition to an active family.

If you think you could provide Toby and Chloe with lots of love, attention, and snuggle time, they would be happy to provide lots of fun for your family.  Please read the data sheet below carefully, complete the BRAT adoption form (if you have not previously done so) and contact BRAT coordinator, Kent and Angela Munro about adopting these exceptional Basenjis! The coordinator's link will take you to a form that will ask you your name, e-mail address, the city and state you live in, why this pair is perfect for your family, a typical day in your household, and, if applicable, how you plan to transport these dogs.
