Tucker

This seven-year-old, red and white boy is a healthy, sweet, loving guy who really likes to be with his people. He is very laid back and easy going with almost everyone he meets, humane and K-9. After a short introduction period he can be touched all over. Almost. Tucker is fine with other dogs that will not be pushy with him and would prefer to live with a female, unless the male is not a basenji and is easy going and reasonably calm. He doesn't seem to care one way or the other about cats.

Tucker is fine in a chain link fenced yard. He does not seem to want to climb or dig out but he will bolt out a door or gate given the chance. He does love to go for walks and pulls on the leash, but only a little. He can be crated but stresses a good bit especially when left alone. Because of this he can not be flown. He stays in the house confined to two bedrooms during the day while his humans are at work and is just fine; he has not destroyed anything. Like any self-respecting basenji Tucker will inspect the contents of the trash and,  given the chance, will make snow out of a box of tissue.

Tucker rides in the car like most basenjis. He is very accepting of small children that he knows, but is fearful of those he does not know. He will not be placed in a home with children under eight.

The home Tucker would like would have a secure fenced-in backyard or owners that would enjoy taking him for long walks and an easygoing socialized dog as a companion.

If you think you could provide Tucker with love, activity, and evening cuddle-time, please read the data sheet below carefully, complete the BRAT adoption form (if you have not previously done so) and contact BRAT coordinator, Jack Austin. The coordinator's link will take you to a form that will ask you your name, e-mail address, the city and state you live in, why this dog is perfect for your family, a typical day in your household, and, if applicable, how you plan to transport Tucker.

There is an adoption fee of $225.00 for Tucker. This fee is used for all costs associated with the care and feeding of Tucker and future basenjis in rescue. BRAT adopters receive a dog that has been spayed or neutered ($100.00-$250.00, depending on location), fully vaccinated, tested for heartworm, and strip-tested for Fanconi (negative unless otherwise noted), and temperament evaluated. In addition, BRAT provides free lifetime post-adoption counseling to help deal with behavioral issues. Finally, we provide a free lifetime identification tag connected to our "lost dog" toll free number.
